Professional Educator Program
The LOOP Professional Educator Program offers internet-based
professional
development courses for educators. LOOP provides
an opportunity to learn about Landmark’s successful
teaching strategies and to discuss with colleagues worldwide
the practical implementation of best practices for helping
children learn.
LOOP offers participants practical strategies for immediate
use in the classroom. LOOP faculty are professionals who continue
to teach students with learning disabilities; the strategies
and materials they present have been developed and refined
throughout years
of implementation and adaptation in Landmark’s
classrooms. Participants in the online courses will not have
to leave their own classrooms to pursue continuing education.
LOOP offers the flexibility to participate in professional
development at a time and place
of the individual’s
choice, thus minimizing disruptions to daily schedules.
LOOP courses are designed to be interactive. Participants
can converse with each other and the instructors through threaded
discussions focused on the topics introduced in
each unit.
Threaded discussions offer the benefits of class discussion
without being tied
to a set class time.
LOOP courses for professional educators are organized into
five units, each of which is designed to take approximately
two hours to complete. Content for LOOP courses is available
online within the course—there are no required texts
for separate purchase.
Unit content for the week is released
at the beginning of each of the first five weeks of the course
in order to facilitate topic-focused discussions. Throughout
the courses,
instructors encourage participants to use the
strategies presented in their classrooms
and engage in discussions
about the experience. Final projects require participants
to synthesize what they have learned and show how they can
implement it in their classes
to help students learn more
successfully.
