Preventing Teacher Burnout, Virtual – Summer Institute 2023

This course is also offered in person on a different day!

VIRTUAL COURSE LOGISTICS

  • Delivery mode: Entirely virtual. There is no in-person component for the virtual courses.
  • Attendance: Live, on the date and time listed in the course information section. Please be prepared to be available for a combination of synchronous and asynchronous instruction for the entire duration of this course.
  • Platform: Zoom. You will need access to a reliable internet connection and computer with video and audio. Login credentials will be emailed prior to the course beginning.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

During this one day course, teachers will spend time discussing key contributors to the feeling of burnout, as unique to their own situations.  Participants will also dive into myths and realities around the idea of “multitasking” while further discussing work habits that detract from optimal performance and focus.  Additionally, participants will explore different styles of workflow so that they may find the style that best suits both their individual preferences and work demands.  Lastly, participants will practice strategies that will help them increase work-life balance so they can work more efficiently, while also savoring unproductive moments to recharge. 

Upon completion, participants will be able t0:

  • Identify “energy vampires” that drain your energy
  • Gain awareness of how any downtime is currently spent, and learn how to make intentional choices regarding how to spend unproductive time
  • Discuss and implement the style of workflow that works best for your current work expectations and personality

 

LEVEL

This course is appropriate for educators at all grade levels.

About the Instructor

Erin Brewer, M.S.Ed. & E-RYT200

Erin has been working at Landmark High School since 2010 teaching geometry, one-to-one tutorial, and yoga classes. She has also been an academic advisor since 2015, working to help students and faculty navigate life’s obligations while also maintaining their mental health. Erin earned two bachelor’s degrees from Syracuse University: one in retail management and the other in marketing. She also received her master’s degree in moderate special needs from Simmons University. Prior to her start at Landmark, Erin earned her 200 hour yoga teacher certification at Kripalu in Stockbridge, MA.
