Cape Cod Two-Day Seminars

Scaffolding Written Language For Elementary and Middle School Students, In-Person – Cape 2022


  • Delivery mode: In-person. All guidelines around Covid-19 protocols will be followed and communicated to participants.
  • Attendance: Live, on the date and time listed in the course information section.


In this seminar, participants will learn strategies for helping students put their thoughts into writing. Specifically, methods for developing thematic units and vocabulary, composing simple and complex sentences, and writing single- and multi-paragraph compositions will all be discussed.

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Define the writing demands placed on students
  • Identify and explain the importance of oral rehearsal prior to writing
  • Implement scaffolded techniques in the classroom to enhance students’ writing both at the sentence and paragraph level


This course is appropriate for educators at the elementary and middle school levels.


Materials will be provided on-site.


Participants may elect to add 1 graduate credit to this course. Graduate credit is an additional $125 and is granted by Colorado State University-Pueblo.

About the Instructor

Peter Harris, M.S.Ed.

Peter has been at Landmark since 1998 and has taught in both the elementary and middle school programs. He is currently the co-chair of the language arts department, and he is the director of the Landmark Summer Program. Peter has presented written expression seminars for educators and parents throughout the country.
