Webinar Description

Building a fluent, reading brain has been equated with conducting an orchestra or doing rocket science. Because fluent comprehension can be considered the outcome of all the component process that make up reading, it is one of the hardest areas to assess, teach, and change. In this presentation, I will bring my perspectives from studying reading, especially fluency, from its earliest predictors and building blocks to its outcomes in the high school classroom and beyond. Importantly, I will draw on brain, child assessment, and intervention perspectives. This will include a review of repeated reading vs. other intervention approaches, and the neuroscience studies that inform us about how a reading brain functions and how we can support it.
