Webinar Description
There is a strong connection between pragmatic language skills and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)—both of which are critical for academic and social success. Students with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) often face challenges with pragmatic language skills (sometimes referred to as social communication), which can impact their ability to effectively engage in core SEL competencies.
This webinar will explore the intersection of pragmatics and SEL, with a focus on key areas such as social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. We will also explore how elements like problem-solving, cognitive flexibility, and perspective-taking support the development of pragmatic language within the SEL framework. Educators will leave with practical strategies for explicitly teaching these skills in the classroom to support all learners, particularly those with SLD.
