Webinar Description

In October 2025, the International Dyslexia Association adopted a revised definition of dyslexia following a multi-year process that involved more than 3,000 researchers, practitioners, parents, advocates, and individuals with dyslexia from around the world. In this webinar, Hugh Catts and Charley Haynes, co-chairs of the definition effort, will review the scientific rationale for key changes in the definition and discuss implications for educators, clinicians, administrators, parents, and advocates.

About the Instructor

Charles Haynes, PhD & Hugh Catts, PhD

About Dr. Haynes

Dr. Charles Haynes (Charley) received his Ed.D. from Harvard University and is Professor Emeritus at MGH Institute of Health Professions. His research interests are in cognitive and linguistic assessments predictors of reading in different world languages. In 2014, he received the Margaret Byrd Rawson Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Dyslexia Association for his contributions to the field of dyslexia. In 2025, he received IDA’s Legacy Award for establishing the Association’s international network of Global Partners. With colleagues Hugh Catts and Malt Joshi, Charley co-chaired IDA’s Steering Committee’s revision of the definition of dyslexia, which was made public in October of 2025.

About Dr. Catts

Dr. Catts is a faculty member in the School of Communication Science and Disorders at Florida State University. His research interests include the early identification and prevention of reading disabilities. He is a past board member of the International Dyslexia Association and a past board member and President of the Society for the Scientific Study of Reading. He has received the Samuel T. Orton Award from the International Dyslexia Association and the Honors of the Association from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association for his career contributions in each of these disciplines. His current research concerns the early identification of reading and language disabilities and the nature and assessment of reading comprehension problems.
