Reading is critical for all school subjects. Many math tests now require reading. Students read word problems and explain their responses in writing. Poor reading virtually guarantees poor writing skills. Science and social studies require textbook reading. Art, music, health, and physical education classes often include background reading and written projects. Reading skills affect a student’s entire academic experience.
